Winnersh Meadows Revamped                         November  2011

Work on enhancing the public open space now known as Winnersh Meadows (shown left in green) is nearing completion.

The Winnersh Neighbourhood Action Group successfully applied for a National Lottery grant to improve the area, supported by Wokingham Borough Council and Winnersh Parish Council.

New picnic tables, extra benches and more bins have been installed and 1250 metres of footpath have been reinstated. Pat Rowell, Chairman of the Winnersh NAG, says “It was important not to spoil the natural feel of the area while making it more usable. We have also sown a traditional wildflower meadow. The basketball hoop and adult gym are already well-used.”

In October, Neighbourhood Action Group members and volunteers from the community put in 4,000 spring bulbs. An orchard of 35 native fruit trees was planted in November and local people will be able to pick the fruit.

Why not take a look? Access is from a footpath at the corner of Arbor Lane at its junction with Arbor Meadows or from Bluebell Meadow, Primrose Lane or IQ Winnersh (Winnersh Triangle).
